Two distinguished academics have agreed to become Visiting ProfessorsKeith Ward at St Mellitus College. Keith Ward was Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford University before his retirement in 2004. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and an expert in C20th Theology and Philiosophy. Alister McGrath is Professor of Historical Theology in Oxford and is shortly to take up a post as Professor of Theology, Education an Ministry at King's College London. St Mellitus has a growing link with King's College as St Mellitus ordinands can take a King's MA alongside ordination training at St Mellitus. Graham Tomlin, the new Dean of St Mellitus said "we are delighted that such well known Christian theologians are happy to make their wisdom and learning available to St Mellitus students. Their contribution will add to the excellence we can offer to our students as the Colege grows in these early years."

On Wednesday 2nd July 2008, The Bishop of London, The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Richard Chartres and The Bishop of Chelmsford, The Rt Revd John Gladwin led a service of thanksgiving and commissioning at St Paul’s Cathedral, to celebrate the establishment of St Mellitus College over the past year.

The Cathedral was packed with hundreds of students, staff and friends who gathered to see the commissioning of the new Dean of St Mellitus, the Revd Dr Graham Tomlin and the two Assistant Deans, the Revd Dr David Hilborn, Director of North Thames Ministerial Training Course and the Revd Dr Andy Emerton, Director of St Paul’s Theological Centre. A group of actors dramatised the life of St Mellitus, and the Psalm Drummers led the congregation out onto the steps of St Paul's at the end of the service.

The Dean and the Bishops of London and ChelmsfordThe College will serve a combined church region of 6.3 million people across London and Essex. The mixture of 300 languages and cultures make it one of the most diverse regions of the world. Ordinands, established vicars and lay people will all be able to learn from their communities, share experiences and deepen their faith. The College represents the coming together of the North Thames Ministerial Training Course, which runs across the two dioceses and the St Paul’s Theological Centre based in Kensington. St Mellitus College will aim to work closely with a variety of training institutions and churches across the region.
